8M displaced in 2024 show climate relocation needs more than housing
Nearly 8 million people were displaced within Bangladesh and India by rapid-onset climate hazards in 2024. Research from Old Podampetta and Khulna district shows planned relocation only becomes durable when shelter is paired with livelihoods, infrastructure, and legal recognition. For adaptation planners, housing alone is the failure point.
